Abstract

Transformers are vital equipment in electrical power systems, functioning to transfer power from high voltage to low voltage or vice versa. This study focuses on the 60 MVA power transformer at Adijaya Substation, where a solid grounding system is implemented on the primary side and a Neutral Grounding Resistance (NGR) on the secondary side. The primary objective of this research is to analyze the performance of this grounding system, including the impact of short-circuit currents and soil resistivity. Based on calculations, the grounding electrode resistance is determined to be 3.991 Ω, which adheres to general electrical installation standards. The transformer's capability to withstand single-phase to ground short-circuit current on the HV (150 kV) side is 1.85 kA, and three-phase to ground is 7.38 kA. Correspondingly, on the LV (20 kV) side, the single-phase to ground short-circuit current is 0.192 kA, and three-phase to ground is 14.21 kA. The calculated touch potential is 154.1 volts and the step potential is 214.4 volts, both of which are within safe limits according to IEEE 80-1986 standards. This study concludes that the application of NGR on the 150 kV side is effective in reducing short-circuit fault currents compared to solid grounding on the 20 kV side. These findings are expected to contribute to the development of safer and more efficient electrical systems.
