Abstract
Voltage drop is a problem in power distribution systems, especially in feeders with long lines and uneven loads. This study aims to analyze voltage drops and observe the effectiveness of using Tap Changer and SVC in overcoming voltage drops. Power flow analysis method is used in system modeling simulations using PSS Sincal software, which
is validated by manual calculations to ensure accuracy. Three conditions are analyzed, namely, the existing condition, after improvements with transformer tap adjustments, and after the addition of SVC. In the initial condition, several bus points experienced voltages below the SPLN tolerance limit of +5% to -10%. After adjusting the secondary side transformer tap by +2.5%, the voltage at several points increased, with the total voltage loss decreasing from 3492.6 Volt to 3304.9 Volt. However, not all points are within the tolerance limit. Therefore, the installation of SVCs of 6 MVAR was carried out based on the improvement of the power factor from 0.80 to 0.99. The simulation results show significant improvements in voltage drop, with most points already within the tolerance limit. The combination tap and SVC settings has proven effective in reducing voltage drop. Furthermore, the combination of Tap and SVC has proven effective in reducing active power losses from 583.465 kW to 517.671 kW and reactive power losses from 1327.761 kVAR to 1178.658 kVAR. This method is a technical solution to improve the quality and reliability of the electricity distribution system.
