Abstract

As national energy demand rises due to significant population growth, Indonesia is transitioning from fossil fuel dependence to environmentally friendly renewable energy. One such initiative is the Wind Power Plant (PLTB) study at Institut Teknologi PLN, serving as a contribution to carbon emission reduction and as a model for renewable energy use in Jakarta’s urban areas. This research employs a quantitative approach using HOMER software simulations. Wind speed and direction data were obtained from NASA MERRA-2, validated with NASA POWER, and analyzed for technical and economic feasibility. The planning was conducted at two locations: on top of Building A (Vertical Axis Wind Turbine/VAWT at heights of 51.7 m and 10 m) and beside the campus lake (Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine/HAWT at heights of 10 m and 50 m). Simulation results indicate that turbine performance is influenced by type, location, and height. The 50 m HAWT produced the highest output of 472.49 W with an annual generation of 829 kWh, while the 50 m VAWT only generated 140.84 W and 8.507 kWh/year. Findings confirm that HAWT in open areas is more efficient than VAWT on rooftops. The study recommends a 50 m HAWT as the optimal option in terms of technical performance and economic feasibility for ITPLN campus conditions.
