Abstract
Indonesia has an abundant wealth of natural resources, including biomass, which is one of the renewable energy sources with great potential for electric power systems. Riau Province, as the largest oil palm producer in Indonesia, has a huge biomass potential from plantation waste such as empty oil palm bunches (TKKS), fiber, and palm shells. Biomass can be obtained from a variety of sources, such as agricultural, plantation, forestry, and domestic organic waste. Biomass power generation, especially those derived from agricultural and plantation waste, offer advantages over other renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, as they can provide consistent baseline load
power if the raw materials are properly managed. This study analyzes the impact of the integration of 5.13 MW biomass power plants (PLTBm) into a 150 kV transmission system in the Riau region using PSS SINCAL software. The simulation was carried out in two connection point options, namely option 1 integrated to the 150 kV Substation Balai Pungut and option 2 to the 150 kV Duri Substation, the system distributed power of 626,892 MW with an active power loss of 13,233 MW (2.110%). After the integration of PLTBm in option 2, the system power increased to 630,063 MW and the active power loss to 13,192 MW (2,093%). Decreased power losses indicate option 2 is more effective in reducing power losses. In addition, the busbar voltage profile after integration remained within the tolerance limit (±5%), indicating that the substation was able to receive additional power supply without the need for increased capacity. Thus, the integration of renewable energy can increase the contribution of renewable energy without disrupting the reliability of existing systems.
