Abstract
The development of construction technology has encouraged innovations in work methods, materials, and supporting equipment, including formwork systems for reinforced concrete. Conventional formwork made of wood and plywood is still widely used due to its relatively low initial cost and ease of installation. However, it has limitations in terms of time efficiency, accuracy, and low reusability. As an alternative, aluminium formwork has been increasingly applied in large-scale projects due to its advantages, such as faster installation, better casting quality, high reusability, and environmental friendliness, although it requires higher initial investment. This study aims to compare conventional and aluminium formwork systems in beam and slab works, focusing on execution duration and total construction costs. The analysis was carried out on a multi-storey building project, referring to the Unit Price Analysis (AHSP) of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, 2024 and the 2024 Standard Unit Prices of Tangerang Regency. The results show that for a work volume of approximately 952 m² using aluminium formwork, the total cost reached IDR 591.6 million, while for a volume of approximately 978 m² using conventional formwork, the cost was IDR 372.1 million. The cost difference amounts to IDR 219.5 million, or 59% higher with the aluminium system. In terms of manpower and time, aluminium formwork required 68 workers/day with a duration of 7 days, while the conventional system required 71 workers/day with a duration of 6 days 6 hours. In conclusion, although aluminium formwork entails higher costs, it provides advantages in workforce efficiency and casting quality, making it potentially more economical in long-term applications.
