Sungai – sungai di pulau Jawa memiliki karakteristik angkutan sedimen yang relatif besar. Sedimentasi yang tinggi dapat mengakibatkan waduk berfungsi hanya sebagai bendung dan tidak beroperasi dengan efektif. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui efektivitas check dam terhadap sedimentasi yang masuk ke waduk Saguling. Pembangunan check dam dapat mengurangi volume sedimen yang masuk sebanyak 12.06 % dibandingkan kondisi tanpa check dam. Metode yang digunakan untuk mendapat jumlah sedimentasi pada check dam adalah membandingkan luas DAS waduk dan laju sedimentasi waduk dengan luas das check dam. Umur waduk setelah adanya check dam bertambah menjadi 43,45 tahun dari 43 tahun sehingga check dam menambah 0.52 tahun pada umur waduk.

Rivers on the island of Java are characterized by relatively high sediment transport. Excessive sedimentation can cause a reservoir to function merely as a dam, rendering it ineffective in operation. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of check dams in reducing sedimentation entering the Saguling Reservoir. The construction of check dams can reduce the volume of incoming sediment by 12.06 % compared to conditions without check dams. The method used to estimate sedimentation at the check dam involves comparing the watershed area of the reservoir and its sedimentation rate with the watershed area of the check dam. The reservoir’s lifespan after the installation of check dams increased to 43.45 years from 43 years, meaning the check dam extended the reservoir’s life by 0.52 years.
