SMK Poncol merupakan institusi yang bergerak pada bidang pendidikan. Sistem penerimaan siswa baru yang ada di SMK Poncol ini masih belum menggunakan sistem yang terkomputerisasi. Panitia Penerimaan Peserta Didik Baru (PPDB) mengalami kesulitan-kesulitan yang berkaitan dengan pengolahan data, mulai dari proses pendaftaran, penyeleksian dan pengumuman hasil seleksi yang masih menggunakan sistem secara manual. Dalam pengolahan data, panitia masih merasa kesulitan, serta belum digunakannya fasilitas internet guna penyampaian informasi yang bersangkutan dengan pelaksanaan Penerimaan Peserta Didik Baru (PPDB), penyampaian pengumuman pelaksanaan Penerimaan Peserta Didik Baru (PPDB) sekolah masih dilakukan dengan cara manual yaitu dengan menempelkannya di papan pengnumuman sekolah. Selain itu, untuk calon siswa baru yang akan mendaftar harus datang langsung ke sekolah untuk mengikuti proses pendaftaran dan tes akademik secara langsung hingga menunggu hasil tes apakah diterima atau tidak diterima. Hasil dari proses seleksi tes akademik selanjutnya akan ditempelkan oleh panitia Penerimaan Peserta Didik Baru (PPDB) pada papan pengumuman yang ada disekolah tersebut. Tujuan perancangan sistem informasi ini adalah menghasilkan sistem penerimaan siswa baru secara terkomputerisasi, dimana sebelumnya proses penerimaan siswa baru di sekolah SMK poncol masih manual, sehingga belum efisien dan optimal dalam pendaftaran siswa baru, penyeleksian dan penerimaan peserta didik baru, dengan memanfaatkan sistem penerimaan peserta didik baru, dapat meningkatkan kinerja serta pengolahan data yang lebih baik, tepat, cepat dan akurat. Sehingga perlu dirancang sistem informasi penerimaan peserta didik baru berbasis WEB menggunakan metode Waterfall. Hasil dari pengembangan sistem adalah dapat membantu sekolah SMK Poncol Jakarta pusat untuk mengelola data pendaftaran, data siswa, data orangtua, penyeleksian, dan penerimaan peserta didik baru.
