Abstract

Paving blocks can be called concrete blocks. The use of cement as a mixture of concrete blocks causes environmental problems. Fly ash is one of the basic geopolymer materials derived from coal combustion waste which has a high potential as a substitute for Portland cement in the manufacture of concrete blocks. Glass waste from industry and households is also a problem for the environment. Glass powder can be used as a substitute for cement because it has a chemical content of pozzolan which is almost similar to cement. This research uses glass powder as a substitute for fly ash with variations of 0%, 15%, 30%, 45%, and 60%. The test parameters are compressive strength and water absorption. All tests were carried out at the time of geopolymer concrete blocks with an age of 7 days. The results showed that the optimum compressive strength value was found in geopolymer concrete blocks with variations of glass powder at 45% and fly ash at 55% with a compression test value of 30.67 MPa which included B quality of paving blocks. The lowest water absorption was found in geopolymer concrete blocks with variations of glass powder at 45% and fly ash at 55%, with a water absorption value of 3.517% which includes B quality of paving blocks. The paving blocks produced in this research were paving blocks of B quality.
