Abstract
Seaming process is a process that aims to unite the can body with the can cover using a Can Seamer machine. There are three parts in the seaming process that play an important role in the seaming process, namely chuck, first roll, second roll. The quality of seaming results is reviewed based on the first roll process, if the process is disrupted it will have a direct impact on the quality of the seaming process so that it will cause reject results called false seaming. In the Angelus Can Seamer machine at PT Ancol Terang Metal Printing Industri, there is a disturbance in the first roll so that false seaming rejects increase quite high, so it is necessary to make modifications to detect if there is a disturbance in the first roll when the machine is operating. First roll detection is made by utilizing a proximity sensor as a detector which then the use of PLC is carried out as a detection control system. From the data obtained, it can be seen that before the modification of false seaming rejects can reach 1,058 pcs of cans and several times the reject results are in the hundreds. Then after the modification by adding a first roll detection device, the results of reject false seaming can be significantly reduced when the machine is operating. In several first roll faults while the machine was operating, the number of rejects in the two months after installation did not exceed 40 pcs of cans.
Proses Seaming merupakan proses yang bertujuan untuk menyatukan body kaleng dengan penutup kaleng dengan menggunakan mesin Can Seamer. Terdapat tiga bagian dalam proses seaming yang berperan penting pada proses seaming yaitu chuck, first roll (roll pertama), second roll (roll kedua). Kualitas hasil seaming ditinjau berdasarkan proses first roll, apabila proses tersebut mengalami gangguan maka akan berdampak langsung terhadap kualitas proses seaming sehingga akan menimbulkan hasil reject yang disebut false seaming. Pada mesin Can Seamer Angelus pada PT. Ancol Terang Metal Printing Industri terjadi suatu gangguan pada first roll sehingga reject false seaming meningkat cukup tinggi, sehingga perlu dilakukan modifikasi untuk mendeteksi apabila terjadi gangguan pada first roll saat mesin beroperasi. Deteksi first roll dibuat dengan memanfaatkan sensor proximity sebagai detector yang kemudian penggunaan PLC dilakukan sebagai sistem kontrol deteksi tersebut. Dari hasil data yang didapatkan, terlihat bahwa sebelum modifikasi reject false seaming dapat mencapai angka 1.058 pcs kaleng dan beberapa kali hasil reject diangka ratusan. Kemudian setelah dilakukan modifikasi dengan menambahkan alat deteksi first roll, hasil dari reject false seaming dapat berkurang dengan signifikan pada saat mesin beroperasi. Dalam beberapa gangguan first roll saat mesin beroperasi, jumlah reject dalam dua bulan setelah pemasangan tidak melebihi 40 pcs kaleng.
