Abstract

Solid waste from resident plantations in the form of wood waste can be used as an alternative energy source for biomass power plants. Wood waste that is processed into wood chips and wood pellets is utilized as fuel for biomass power plants, which are used to heat water in the boiler so as to produce steam and vapor pressure temperatures that are capable of turning turbines. The steam turbine serves as the main driver to rotate the generator to produce output in the form of electric power. This thesis discusses the feasibility study of the operation and the financial feasibility of the wood biomass power plant in Berau. The calculation results show that raw wood fuel needed for a day is 165,888 tons. The feasibility of operation is obtained from the results of a voltage drop of 0.89% and network losses of 0.67%. The results of financial feasibility are obtained from the Net Present Value (NPV) of 38.014.859.465 with a value of Internal Rate Return (IRR) of 17.33% and Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR) of 1,368 and Pay Back Period (PBP) for 5 years 9 months.
