Abstract

The development of electric vehicle technology is a strategic solution to address environmental issues and dependence on fossil fuels. In Indonesia, the high number of motorized vehicles, especially motorcycles, poses challenges in energy efficiency and exhaust emissions. This study aims to compare the energy efficiency and performance of the Smoot Zuzu electric motorcycle and the Honda Scoopy Prestige fuel-powered motorcycle for short-distance driving of 5 km. Ten tests were conducted on each motorcycle, recording energy consumption, engine operating temperature, and identifying maintenance needs during operation. The test results show that the electric motorcycle is superior in energy efficiency with an average consumption of 85.31 Wh per 5 km, while the fuel-powered motorcycle requires 799.92 Wh of energy for the same distance. In addition, the maximum temperature of the fuel-powered motorcycle reaches almost 50°C, higher than that of the electric motorcycle, which is only around 42.8°C. Maintenance of the fuel-powered motorcycle is also more complex because it involves periodic oil, spark plug, and air filter changes. Meanwhile, the electric motorcycle only requires checking the electrical system and battery. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that electric motorbikes are more efficient, require minimal maintenance, and are more environmentally friendly than fuel-powered motorbikes for daily use over short distances.
