Abstract

The Indonesian government plans to increase the utilization of renewable energy sources (RES) to replace the role of diesel generators in many off-grid small systems in Indonesia’s remote areas. The purposes of the program in the electricity supply business are to reduce dependency on fossil fuels, reduce production costs, and reduce emissions to the environment. The RES generators that have the potential to be used are PV Photovoltaic and Wind Turbines. At the planning stage, a techno-economic study is required to determine the optimal Hybrid Renewable Energy System (HRES) size and configuration. This requires software tools to design, calculate, and optimize the systems. One of the software researchers have widely used is Hybrid optimization Model for Electric Renewables (HOMER) software developed by National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), United States. This paper will review some articles which use Homer for optimal planning of HRES
