Abstract

This study aims to analyze the technical and economic feasibility of a hybrid power generation system based on Solar Photovoltaic (PV), battery storage, and Diesel Generators (PLTD) in Pulau Kulambing, Pangkep Regency. The primary issue addressed is the current dependence on diesel-based electricity, which is inefficient, costly, and unable to provide 24-hour service. A quantitative approach is employed using simulation and optimization through HOMER Pro software. The analysis includes daily community load profiles, local solar irradiation potential, technical specifications of system components, and economic parameters such as capital investment, operational costs, and fuel consumption. Simulation results indicate that the most optimal techno-economic configuration consists of a 67 kW solar PV system, 28 unit of batteries, a 29,5 kW inverter, and a 90 kW diesel generator operating under a load-following strategy. This model yields a Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) of $ 0,296/kWh, a Net Present Cost (NPC) of $ 2,346 million, and an annual operating cost of $ 1.003.265. Compared to a diesel-only system with an LCOE of $ 0,313/kWh and an NPC of $ 2,482 million, the hybrid system proves to be significantly more efficient and economical. It also achieves over 15% reduction in carbon emissions. The PV–Battery–Diesel hybrid system is highly feasible for remote areas like Pulau Kulambing, offering substantial benefits in cost reduction, emission control, and supply reliability. This research provides an empirical foundation for regional energy policy and sustainable energy development in archipelagic regions.
