Abstract

To achieve Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060, energy transformation is needed. Selayar Islands, a remote South Sulawesi island, uses diesel power plants (PLTD). Since PLTD is used, power and carbon emissions will cost more. Hybridizing PLTD and Solar Power Plants (PLTS) supports NZE and sustainable energy regulations. This study know the BPP of PLTD, PLTS, hybridized power plants, analyses operational cost efficiency, evaluates profitability conditions before and after PLTS operation. The research technique involves primary and secondary data gathering, BPP PLTD, PLTS, hybridized power plants analysis, operational cost efficiency analysis, and profitability analysis. This study found that 2023 BPP PLTD is Rp. 5101/kWh, quite costly. PLTS has a lower BPP, on average below the Selayar Islands regulatory limit of Rp. 2411.58/kWh. Hybrid power plants have lower BPPs than diesel plants in the same year. PLTS can reduce BPP even though its operational cost is only 1-2% and does not meet BPP Kepulauan Selayar regulations. Business losses persist before and after PLTS operation. The largest loss in 2023 was 130.8 billion. This research hopes to optimise the archipelago's electricity system via renewable energy hybridization. It can also inspire Indonesia's green energy policy, especially in remote locations.
