Abstract
Solar energy as a renewable energy source has great potential in meeting the need for clean and sustainable electricity. However, the power output from solar power plants (PLTS) fluctuates due to dependence on unstable solar radiation intensity, which can disrupt the stability of the electricity system, especially frequency and voltage. To overcome this problem, an energy storage system is needed that is able to absorb excess energy when production is high and release energy when production decreases quickly and efficiently.
Flywheel Energy Storage System (FESS) is an ideal mechanical storage technology because it has a fast response, high efficiency, long service life, and minimal environmental impact. This study uses a quantitative method with simulation using MATLAB Simulink+Simscape software to analyze the integration of Flywheel with PLTS Cirata in the Java Madura Bali (Jamali) grid system. The simulation compares system conditions with and without Flywheel to assess its effect on system stability.
The expected results are to increase frequency and voltage stability by reducing power fluctuations due to changes in solar radiation. The application of FESS to PLTS can maintain the quality of electric power and support optimal penetration of renewable energy. This research provides an important contribution as a reference in the development of integrated energy storage systems to support clean and reliable electricity.
