Abstract

This research aims to analyze the selection of biomass (rice husk, sawdust, and woodchips) for cofiring in Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) power plants, supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 program by reducing carbon emissions from coal combustion. The study was conducted at PLTU Punagaya Unit 1 using a case study method, including field testing of 5% and 10% biomass cofiring. Data collection involved interviews, documentation, site visits, and direct supervision of operational parameters, combustion efficiency, and environmental impacts.
Results showed that cofiring rice husk and sawdust caused significant changes in operational parameters such as furnace pressure and temperature distribution in the superheater area. Cofiring with 5% and 10% rice husk reduced primary energy costs by Rp10.98/kWh and Rp21.55/kWh, respectively, while sawdust reduced costs by Rp12.28/kWh and Rp4.98/kWh. SO₂ and NOₓ emissions remained within environmental limits, although NOₓ levels tended to increase. Cofiring 5% woodchips offered the highest cost savings at Rp24.03/kWh, but posed a higher slagging risk.
Recommendations include selecting biomass that meets SNI standards, closely monitoring operational parameters, limiting rice husk cofiring to 5%, sawdust to 5%, and further testing woodchips at higher percentages.

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pemilihan biomassa (sekam padi, sawdust, dan woodchips) untuk Cofiring di PLTU Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) dalam rangka mendukung program Net Zero Emission 2060 melalui pengurangan emisi karbon dari pembakaran batubara. Studi dilakukan di PLTU Punagaya unit 1 dengan metode eksperimen actual pada pengujian Cofiring biomassa 5% dan 10%. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara, dokumentasi, site visit, dan supervisi langsung terhadap parameter operasi, efisiensi pembakaran, dan dampak lingkungan.
Hasil menunjukkan bahwa Cofiring sekam padi dan sawdust menimbulkan perubahan signifikan pada parameter operasi seperti tekanan furnace dan distribusi temperatur di area superheater. Cofiring sekam padi 5% dan 10% menghemat biaya masing-masing Rp10,98/kWh dan Rp21,55/kWh, sementara sawdust Rp12,28/kWh dan Rp4,98/kWh. Emisi SO₂ dan NOₓ masih memenuhi ambang batas, meskipun NOₓ cenderung meningkat. Cofiring woodchips 5% memberikan penghematan tertinggi, Rp24,03/kWh, namun memiliki potensi slagging yang tinggi.
Rekomendasi mencakup pemilihan biomassa yang sesuai SNI, monitoring parameter operasi secara ketat, dan pembatasan Cofiring sekam padi maksimal 5%, sawdust maksimal 5%, serta pengujian lebih lanjut untuk woodchips di atas 5%.
