Abstract
Electric power holds a strategic position in Indonesia because reliable supply underpins economic growth. This study evaluates the technical and economic feasibility of converting flue-gas heat from PLTU Adipala into 5 kW of electricity through a micro ORC cycle. A thermodynamic model quantifies the recoverable enthalpy while a discounted cash-flow model assesses investment performance. Measurement at the economiser duct records a mass flow of 55 000 kg h⁻¹ at 170 °C, yielding about 400 kW_th. With twelve percent cycle efficiency the system delivers 5 kW net while exhaust temperature remains 110 °C and back pressure only 2 mbar, so boiler operation is not disturbed. The investment requires USD 15 000 and annual net cash inflow reaches USD 3 054, which produces a Net Present Value of USD 11 000, an Internal Rate of Return of 19.8 percent, a Benefit–Cost Ratio of 1.59, and a payback period of five years at a ten percent discount rate . These figures confirm that small-scale heat recovery at coal power stations can generate attractive returns while lowering fuel use and emissions.
