Condenser tube at Bukit Asam Unit 3 power plant has failed due to abrasion in the condenser pipe, this is thought to be due to the content of silica sand contained in river water used as cooling water in the condenser this causes changes in the material structure in the condenser tube so that the failure of the condenser tube such as eroding the surface in the condenser tube. Therefore, researchers conducted this study with the aim of being able to find out the cause of failure on the condenser tube at the Bukit Asam Unit Power Plant. To conduct this research in order to analyze the failure of the condenser tube can be done with various methods such as visual observation, metallographic testing, brinell hardness testing, optical microscope testing, and SEM-EDS testing. After various test methods, brinell hardness test results of 114.51 on tube failure. From the results of metallographic testing found structural changes characterized by alpha phase and beta phase. And after testing SEM-EDS was found in the sample contained O, Al, Si, P, Ca, Mn, Fe, Cu, K, Zn, with the highest average content O at 25.05%, Si by 18.29%, and Cu by 29.57%.

Tube kondensor unit 3 pada PLTU Bukit Asam telah mengalami kegagalan akibat terjadinya abrasi pada pipa kondensor tersebut, hal ini diduga akibat terdapatnya kandungan pasir silika yang terkandung dalam air sungai yang digunakan sebagai air pendingin pada kondensor hal ini yang menyebabkan berubahnya struktur material pada tube kondensor sehingga terjadinya kegagalan tube kondensor seperti terkikisnya permukaan bagian dalam tube kondensor. Oleh karena itu peneliti melakukan penelitian ini dengan tujuan agar dapat mengetahui penyebab kegagalan pada tube kondensor di PLTU Unit Bukit Asam. Untuk melakukan penelitian ini agar dapat menganalisa kegagalan dari tube kondensor dapat dilakukan dengan berbagai macam metode seperti pengamatan visual, pengujian metalografi, pengujian kekerasan brinnel, pengujian mikroskop optik, serta pengujian SEM-EDX. Setelah dilakukan berbagai macam metode pengujian ini didapat hasil uji kekerasan brinell sebesar 114,51 pada tube yang mengalami kegagalan. Dari hasil pengujian metalografi didapati perubahan struktur yang ditandai dengan fasa alfa dan fasa beta. Serta setelah dilakukan pengujian SEM-EDX didapati pada sampel tersebut terkandung O, Al, Si, P, Ca, Mn, Fe, Cu, K, Zn, dengan rata-rata kandungan tertinggi O sebesar 25,05%, Si sebesar 18,29%, dan Cu sebesar 29,57%.
