Abstract

Co-firing biomassa pada PLTU eksisting adalah salah satu program PLN untuk
mencapai target Net Zero Emission (NZE) yang ditetapkan. Pelaksanaan pengujian Co
firing biomassa dengan cangkang kelapa sawit pada PLTU Air Anyir unit 2 bertujuan
untuk menganalisa efisiensi boiler dengan metode kehilangan panas (heat loss method)
pada co-firing 25%, 50%, 75% dan full firing 100% biomassa dibandingkan dengan
100% batubara. Selain itu juga untuk melihat pengaruh terhadap parameter operasi,
pemakaian bahan bakar (SFC), biaya produksi serta emisi gas buang. Dari hasil
pengujian terjadi penurunan efisiensi boiler seiring dengan peningkatan persentase co
firing. Efisiensi boiler pada 100% batubara sebesar 79,64 %, menurun menjadi 78,89%
pada full firing 100% biomassa. Faktor yang menyebabkan penurunan efisiensi
(controllable) adalah kandungan moisture dalam bahan bakar. Pada parameter operasi
tidak terdapat perubahan yang signifikan dan masih dalam batas standar manual book
PLTU. Konsumsi pemakaian bahan bakar (SFC) pada full firing 100% biomassa
sebesar 0,7909 kg/kwh lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan 100% batubara sebesar
0,8050kg/kwh. Co-firing biomassa juga berkontribusi pada penurunan emisi NOx dan
SO₂ masih dibawah batasan baku mutu emisi PLTU dari KLHK sebesar 550 mg/Nm3.
Dengan demikian, co-firing biomassa di PLTU Air Anyir ini secara operasional terjadi
penurunan efisiensi boiler sedangkan pada pemakaian bahan bakar (SFC) terdapat
penurunan dan memberikan manfaat lingkungan dalam bentuk pengurangan emisi
serta langkah strategis menuju transisi energi berkelanjutan.

Biomass co-firing in existing coal-fired power plants (PLTU) is one of PLN's programs
to achieve the set Net Zero Emission (NZE) target. The implementation of biomass co
firing tests using palm kernel shells at the Air Anyir PLTU unit 2 aims to analyze boiler
efficiency using the heat loss method at co-firing ratios of 25%, 50%, 75%, and full
firing of 100% biomass, compared to 100% coal. Additionally, the tests aim to evaluate
the impact on operational parameters, fuel consumption (SFC), production costs, and
exhaust gas emissions. The test results show a decrease in boiler efficiency as the
percentage of co-firing increases. The boiler efficiency at 100% coal was 79.64%,
decreasing to 78.89% at full firing of 100% biomass. The factor causing the efficiency
decline (controllable) is the moisture content in the fuel. For operational parameters,
there were no significant changes, and all values remained within the standard limits
of the PLTU manual book. The fuel consumption (SFC) at full firing of 100% biomass
was 0.7909 kg/kWh, lower than that of 100% coal at 0.8050 kg/kWh. Biomass co-firing
also contributed to a reduction in NOx and SO₂ emissions, which remained below the
emission quality standard limit for PLTU set by the Ministry of Environment and
Forestry (KLHK) at 550 mg/Nm³. Thus, biomass co-firing at the Air Anyir PLTU
operationally resulted in a decrease in boiler efficiency, while fuel consumption (SFC)
decreased and provided environmental benefits in the form of emission reductions, as
well as a strategic step toward sustainable energy transition.
