As construction projects are prone to changes, construction change orders (CCOs) are very common in the industry. These CCOs must be managed carefully so as not to have an impact on project performance or pose a risk of construction disputes. On the contrary, managing CCO claims should not ignore the role of negotiation that is applied to settle claims. Negotiation plays an important role in the claim resolution stage. Hence, the objective of this study was to examine the CCO claim procedure, to measure the successful claim amount resulted from negotiations, as well as to identify factors affecting the CCO claim negotiation process. Data was collected using a case study approach consisting of direct observations and document examination. Three actual building projects in Jakarta were investigated thoroughly. Based on the findings, this study established a CCO claim procedure and determined the success rate of claim amount as well as the influencing factors. Thus, it facilitates a better understanding on CCO claim practices and can serve as a means for facilitating the CCO negotiation process by contracting parties.
